Thiruvananthapuram – the land of backwaters and beaches

The capital city of Kerala, Trivandrum, is also a popular backwater destination of Kerala, the God’s own country. However, Trivandrum tourism is not just about the extensive backwaters that the city offers. Another popular attraction is the Kanakakkunnu Palace that was built during the reign of the King of Travancore. This beautiful palace was built in order to entertain royal guests in the early 20th century. It also used to serve as the main venue of Royal banquets. The place is stunning with elegant pieces of furniture and enchanting crystal chandeliers that are present in the halls.

Situated amidst the bustling city, the Museum Complex includes history and art museums with botanical and zoological gardens along with an art gallery. It is a prime tourist attraction among students, historians and art lovers.

For people who love long romantic walks on beaches, Shanghumugham beach is the perfect choice. It is also a favorite among sunset watchers and photographers. Along with the serene and calm atmosphere it offers, the beach is also famous for a 35 m long sculpture of a mermaid which is known as Matsya Kanyaka. Another interesting fact about the beach is that it is perfectly close to the Trivandrum airport which again makes it a favorite spot for tourists and newlyweds alike.
